Camellia Coffee Roasters Opens Second Cafe in Davis, California
Sacramento's Camellia Coffee Roasters quietly opened a second cafe in Davis, California, taking over a former Peet's Coffee space on July 13.
Camellia Coffee Roasters, a Sacramento-based roastery and cafe, opened a second location in Davis, California on July 13. The 2,100-square-foot shop at 231 E Street takes over a space that housed a Peet's Coffee for 22 years.
Camellia kept the existing layout and some fixtures to work within the space's permitted buildout, then built its own coffee program on top of it. The Davis menu mirrors the Sacramento flagship: single-origin coffees and blends roasted on a Probat P12-2 in Sacramento, pulled on a three-group Slayer Steam espresso machine with a Mazzer grinder and Curtis batch brewer. The Davis shop also adds canned ready-to-drink cold brew, a new item for the company.
Co-founder Ryan Harden said the opening drew a warm response: "So far the welcome has been very nice. Everybody seems very nice." On further expansion, he said: "It took us eight years to open another location, so talk to us in eight years. We love roasting."
Camellia was founded in 2016 and opened its first cafe in 2018. It moved its roastery to an industrial warehouse last year under coffee director Camilla Yuan.
